My first heartbreak shattered the idea of if-you-just-love-each-other-enough movie-love, left me feeling disillusioned, let down, world-weary. Like my heart wasn’t just broken for this love but for love in general. Like the love I’d been sold was a lie. Reading Erich Fromm’s classic ‘The Art of Loving’ helped me question societal expectations and old-fashioned rules that still formed a subconscious base of my understanding of love. Introduced me to looking at love in different ways.
